The anime shows one behind the desks in the building, but I *think* the ones at school were primarily in the basement. It's not clear how threatening the zombies are. For example, the girls regularly use electricity, food, and water, but we don't see where the packaged food is stored, how the water is available, and how the electricity is generated (although the basement fits into the idea that the school building *is* self-sufficient and documents in the school office suggest that a post-apocalypse is a definite possibility). I haven't read the entire manga, but found it to have a fair number of plot holes, so you're going to have to suspend the belief a little more.
